The world has lost a remarkable young man with the passing of Luke Layman, who tragically succumbed to injuries sustained in a head-on car accident. His family, friends, and loved ones are now mourning an unimaginable loss.
Luke, a proud graduate of Oakridge High School (2018), dedicated his life to the pursuit of knowledge and the betterment of others. He studied Physics at Michigan State University, earning his degree in March 2022, before furthering his education in Medical Physics and Radiation Therapy at Wayne State University. His passion for science and healthcare led him to Loyola University Chicago, where he was a Medical Physics Resident, working toward a future dedicated to healing.
Originally from North Vernon, Indiana, Luke made Chicago, Illinois his home. He was not only a brilliant mind but also a compassionate, kind-hearted individual who touched the lives of everyone around him. His love for life, his dedication to his studies, and his unwavering kindness made him truly special.
His passing has left a void in the hearts of his loved ones, including his partner, Abby Pell, and his family, who now lean on each other for strength during this difficult time.
Luke’s mother, Kim White-Layman, shared a heartbreaking update after initially requesting prayers for her son. In her words:
“Friends and family, if you have a few minutes, my family needs some prayers!! Luke was in a head-on car accident. Ralph and I are heading to Chicago now. 🙏”
Later, with profound grief, she wrote:
“It is with great sadness that I update my post that Luke Layman did not survive his injuries from the car accident.”
The community has rallied around the Layman family, offering condolences, love, and prayers. Luke’s legacy will live on in the memories of those who knew him, the impact he made in his field, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met.
May he rest in peace.
