The world has lost a brilliant artist, a radiant spirit, and a true original. Ricky Kruger, a gifted creator from Kanata, Ontario, who made his home in Thunder Bay, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of color, joy, and inspiration.
Ricky was a passionate artist with an unshakable mission: to bring color into people’s lives. His Instagram bio said it best—he was “an artist on a perpetual tour to get colour into people’s lives.” Whether through his vibrant paintings, his infectious energy, or his warm smile, Ricky left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
A graduate of Holy Trinity Catholic High School, Ricky pursued his love for fashion and design at Ryerson University. Though he didn’t complete his degree, his creativity and vision flourished beyond the classroom. His work as a brand ambassador with Proof Experiences and FreeForAll Marketing showcased his ability to connect with people and share his passion for life. Ricky had a way of making people feel seen, heard, and valued—a true gift that extended into every aspect of his career and personal life.
His work at McDonald’s, which he fondly called his “winter home,” reflected his adventurous and welcoming nature. Having worked in locations across Canada, Ricky embraced each experience with enthusiasm, making friends wherever he went.

Those who knew him best describe Ricky as sunshine in human form. His friend RD Gordon wrote, “Ricky, you were one of a kind—an original through and through. Your talent was only matched by your heart. You were full of compassion, laughter, and light. You lived boldly, authentically, and beautifully.”
Meg Orlinski echoed these sentiments, remembering Ricky’s ability to uplift others. “Your smile, energy, and everything about you brought so much joy to my life,” she shared. “When you’d send me random texts or videos, especially during the pandemic, they would lift me up for the whole week.”
Ricky’s absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His influence will live on in every brushstroke, every burst of color, and every cherished memory he created.
Rest in peace, Ricky. Your art, your laughter, and your light will never fade.
